At least 24 people have died and many more are still feared trapped in debris after a flyover under construction for years came crashing down in a crowded commercial area in Kolkata on Thursday. At least 70 people are injured.The flyover is at Burrabazar, a busy area in central Kolkata near Ganesh Talkies.
A 100-metre section of the flyover collapsed suddenly onto a crowded street around lunchtime, crushing pedestrians, cars and other vehicles under metal and concrete."It's a big loss of human lives, strong action will be taken," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee .Hyderabad-based IVRCL group, which was contracted to build the flyover, said its collapse was an "ACT OF GOD".
